The seam method of pattern alteration is an innovative technique that is easy to do. Altering the seamline of a pattern causes the least distortion of the pattern. Alterations at the stitching line may be corrected without shifting the grainline and changes to the lengths of nearby seams may be minimized.

A rounded upper back differs from the dowager's hump in clothing measurements. A rounded upper back is a more-than-average outward curve across the upper back while the dowager's hump develops high on the spine. Figure variations and fitting problems of the two types measurements are discussed.
