Digital imaging: a new role for data processing companies
Article Abstract:
Data processing companies are expanding their services by employing digital imaging techniques. Before, data were simply encoded on a computer terminal, quality checked, stored in a tape and delivered to client banks, requiring the bundling and returning of hard copy. With the advent of digital imaging, however, data processing companies can now scan an application, index it for archives and send the application to data entry. Digitally processed data are encoded in optical platters or on CD-ROM discs, which can store significantly more credit card applications than hard copy applications. The benefits of this system are the abilities to format to any retrieval system, perform automatic indexing, save imaging space and increase scanning output. In the end, all these savings translate to a better service for the customers of data processing companies' clients.

Special problems of Indian-Native people
Article Abstract:
The basic cause of difficulties facing many Indian-Native Canadians is that they are forced both to share their environment with modern technological society and be assimilated into it as well. Failure to acknowledge the essential elements of Indian-Native peoples' subsistence lifestyle runs counters to the intent of the Canadian constitution, human rights statutes, and most affirmative action plans. Legislative recognition is recommended that would recognize that the native peoples' way of life can co-exist with the dominant, industrial-oriented lifestyle.
