Over 17,000 responses were received for the Wine Spectator's 2001 survey of favorite wines, travel destinations and restaurants. Italian Piero Antinori of Tuscany, who has actively promoted Italian wines worldwide, was voted into the prestigious 'Hall of Fame'.

An overview is presented of the demographics of the 17,000 respondents to the Wine Spectator reader survey of 2001. Over 80% of respondents to the 25-question survey were male and wine consumers, rather than industry representatives.
