Chile's wine industry, which is improving steadily, might have experienced the best year in 2003, with the country's winemakers breaking through with the outstanding 2001 vintage to release their first classic-scoring wines. Despite all the improvement, Chile is not yet a bona fide world-class producer, with more than 20 percent of the wines reported, rating below 80 points, or average.
