Bioactive ingredients: antioxidants and polyphenols in tea
Article Abstract:
Both green and black tea contain strong antioxidants. Antioxidants can eliminate free radicals, which have been implicated in many diseases. Many of the antioxidants in tea are polyphenols derived from catechin. Studies on animals and humans indicate that these chemicals are absorbed in the gastrointestinal tract. Epidemiological studies have also linked tea consumption with a reduced risk of cardiovascular disease. There is some evidence that tea extracts can prevent carcinogenesis.

Magnesium status and health
Article Abstract:
The present world average Recommended Dietary Intake is effective to meet the magnesium requirement, but higher magnesium sources must be included in the diet for athletes and postmenopausal women. About 6mg/kg of magnesium per day is recommended. Magnesium deficiency causes growth retardation, impaired muscle and nerve functioning and electromyographic changes. In animals and humans, increased physical exercises are related to enhanced magnesium status.

Zinc and human health
Article Abstract:
Knowledge of the homeostasis and metabolism of zinc to analyze the deficiency and overloading of zinc helps in the assessment of the zinc requirements of the body. Zinc participates in the body's enzymatic activity, signal transduction mechanisms, gene transcription and other metabolic processes. A regular dietary supply of zinc is important for the body. Plasma zinc concentrations are analyzed for estimating zinc deficiency.
