Bone lead as a risk factor for hypertension in men
Article Abstract:
Long-term accumulation of lead in the bones of men may contribute to hypertension, according to a logistic regression model. Hypertensive risk rose in 590 men with high body mass indices, a family history of high blood pressure, and elevated lead levels in their thigh bones. Pending further investigation, it is possible that age contributes to the disease configuration of lead and hypertension in various ways.

Are low-sodium diets appropriate for treated hypertensive men?
Article Abstract:
A study conducted from 1981 to 1990 shows that a low-sodium diet increases myocardial infarction (MI) in men undergoing treatment for hypertension. A decrease in dietary sodium decreases blood volume and increases viscosity. This, along with atherosclerosis, decreases blood flow to the heart causing MI. However, a low-sodium diet may be helpful in individuals with untreated mild or moderate hypertension.
