Dietary guidance for the 21st century: new approaches
Article Abstract:
Ambiguities in dietary guidelines are due at least in part to political pressures. The 1995 Dietary Guidelines, for example, have been opposed by food industry representatives from the onset. To counter political pressures to eliminate or dilute dietary messages, nutrition educators should prioritize the development and funding of research on consumer understanding of dietary guidelines, and on the impact of dietary advice on consumer behavior.
