World-class wines: the year's top 50 from around the globe

The 1997 fifty best wines were selected from the United states, France and Italy, and other parts of the world. The list, which has more red wines than white wines, were picked from thousand of new releases that are of good value. The 1995 Chardonnays, Cabernet Sauvignons and Pinot Noir are included in the list.

The 50 finest: our selections from 1995 show California wines still coming on strong

More than 3,000 wines were tested during 1995, and the best 25 white and 25 red wines are listed. The list includes vintages from 1990-94, and is dominated by California wines. They include Benziger Family Winery's 1993 Zinfandel and Fetzer Vineyards' 1993 Chardonnay.

Fifty wines are listed, with tasting notes and prices provided. One top white wine of the year is a 1995 Arrowood Vineyards & Winery Russian River Valley Pinot Blanc Saralee's Vineyard at $27.50. A 1993 Antinori Tenute Marchese Antinori at $24 is a good red.
