THe American Legion quickly involved itself in disaster relief operations for the victims of Hurricane Andrew in Florida and Louisiana. The Legion, in cooperation with its affiliate groups, provided needy veterans and their families with financial grants through its National Emergency Fund.

Legion, Wal-Mart raise funds for WWII memorial

Wal-Mart and Sam's Club stores are raising funds for the National World War II Memorial in Washington, DC, in conjunction with the American Legion. The companies are matching employee fundraising efforts to a maximum of $3 million.
