Under the land claims settlement signed by Pres Carter in 1980, Native American tribes in New England got millions of dollars, hundreds of thousands of land acres and the right to run casinos. While the benefits have helped the culture shock has been profound, and some think, negative.

Winter can be very hard on the New England deer population, especially in years where there is early snow cover. While the inevitable die-off is sad for those who love the deer, there are many other animals that need the deer to die so they can survive.
