The best time to savor western Michigan's quiet pleasures, from beaches to fine restaurants and art galleries is during fall when everything gets covered with bright colorful leaves. To the north along Lake Michigan, a red lighthouse marks the entrance to the harbor on the Grand River which features eclectic mix of shops including The Gallery Uptown with 30 artists work, an Old World-type shop selling coffee, cheese, wine and ethnic food.

Article Abstract:
Detroit is not only good for it vacation spots but is a shoppers paradise as several smaller cities on the fringe of metropolitan Detroit has preserved or recreated their old-fashioned central shopping districts. There are clothing shops, veggie-juice bars and bead stores mingling with coffee shops, antique malls and cafes and along Washington Street there is Gayle's Chocolate where they produce handmade truffles.

Detroit, Lansing, and Grand Rapids have neighborhoods and suburban communities beyond their downtown districts that are rich in history. Greektown is an enclave just east of downtown Detroit with a variety of eateries, shopping areas, and entertainment.
