Blood, booze, and the Star-Spangled Banner: A noble quest to replace the national anthem with a winner
Article Abstract:
Anders Skaar set up an organization called Anthem! America in 1992, which put out a call for composers and lyricists to replace 'The Star-Spangled Banner' which he thought was hard to sing. The winning composition was 'America, My America' by an Indiana music teacher and two lyricists from Tennessee but it could not replace 'The Star-Spangled Banner' since the Americans viewed any attempt to replace it as sacrilegious.
