Detweiler makes historic visit to Vietnam
Article Abstract:
National Commander William Detweiler announced that the trade relations between the US and Vietnam will continue only when information on missing US soldiers is revealed. Detweiler spoke with the Vietnamese in the cities of Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh, once fierce battle grounds of the Vietnamese War.

Older veterans who hold posts in The American Legion are giving way to Persian Gulf veterans to continue the Legion's legacy. The new Post officers have signed up because of patriotism, concern for their fellow veterans and some, who were recipients of Legions's assistance, want to pay in kind.

The American Legion's 78th convention was held at Salt lake City, UT, on Aug. 30-Sep. 5, 1996. Robert Bowen, Albert Robotti, Orland Taylor, Wilson Timmons and Roger Wild were appointed as vice commanders. A new national chaplain, historian, sergeant-at-arms and commander's aide were also named.
