Homemaker-humorist Erma Bombeck won the hearts of many Americans with her 'housewife humor' in her writings. Her appeal lay in her candid depiction of domestic life, which was often chaotic and always humorous. Three favorite pieces by Bombeck, who died in 1996 at age 69, are presented.

Scintimammography is an experimental technique that can reportedly prevent unnecessary biopsies. It involves the injection of a safe radioactive tracer that makes breast cancers detectable. The technique is being tested at 55 US hospitals as of Feb. 1996.
