Much has been known about dyslexia, a learning disability afflicting about 10% of Americans, since the 1970s. Mistakenly believed a mental handicap, dyslexia is actually diagnosed in persons with above average intelligence. It is believed to be caused by an imbalance of function between the brain's left and right sides.
