Gambling's toll in Minnesota

Minnesota continues to suffer the many social costs of legalized gambling, including an increase in suicides, bankruptcies and crime. Gambling has been estimated to cost the state's residents over $200 million annually in taxes, lost income, bad debts and crime. The state's first full-service casino was established in 1988.

Issues concerning the chances to win in the gambling industry are discussed. It is emphasized that the chances to win by gambling are very small and even when there is a winning, there is legislation that might prevent owners of gambling shops from paying prize money.
