Article Abstract:

Henry Herzberg is a specialist on the use of escalators and lifts in shopping centres and offices. Escalators are the best means of moving large numbers of people up and down and are becomming more of an architectural feature. Herzberg is enthusiastic about new innovations like the curved escalator and the Slimline elevator. He advocates the use of colour and lighting to make escalators more attractive in situations where it is vital to have vertical circulation. However, he is concerned that design may compromise safety in some applications.

Entomological data collected during the time of the T'ang Dynasty show that T'ang officials used a time series chart for predicting locust outbreaks. An analysis of this ancient locust data suggested that population of locusts during outbreaks increased at the longer timescales, supporting a redshifted power spectra. However, new research using autonomous population models provides evidence that there is a shift to lower power frequencies or a blue spectra.
