Richard Babcock is a barn restorer who also does consultation work on barn history. His works have influenced modern-day timber-frame construction. Babcock restores barns and converts them into houses. He got started in the business because he did not have enough money to have one built.

Brig Gen Edwin H. Stoughton and several members of the Vermont Brigade were captured by a Confederate raid on their quarters at Fairfax Court House, VA, during the Civil War. Pres Lincoln willingly spared the general, but deplored the loss of 55 horses, each of which cost $125.
