The author relates how a friend with terminal cancer asked to be permitted to jump out of her 11th-story window. The friend, having witnessed her husband's agonizing death from colon cancer, wanted to die before the suffering became unbearable. The author eventually drove her friend to the hotel where she committed suicide.
