Berry Gordy's Motown, named after Motor City (Detroit), MI, established its name after Smokey Robinson's 'Shop Around' became a gold record in 1960. Among the music company's former talents are such illustrious black names as Diana Ross, Michael Jackson, Marvin Gaye, Stevie Wonder and Gladys Knight.

Rock lit: a grotesque history of rocker as author

Numerous rock artists have entered into writing through their respective memoirs and autobiographies. Although some of these works proven successful, they fail to contribute to the improvement of rock music and only serve to distract musicians from their 'true calling.'

Most popular sandwiches in the US were invented by Midwesterners. For instance, the hamburger was first prepared by Charlie Nagreen of Columbus, OH, in 1885 while the famous Reuben sandwich was invented by Reuben Kulakofsky of Omaha, NE in 1920.
