Five New Englanders describe their experiences narrowly escaping death and the affect it has had on their outlooks on life. One man survived after his parachute wrapped around his legs. Another had to cut off his own leg with a chainsaw after being trapped under a tree.

Marooned on the ice cap
Article Abstract:
Thomson was one of 12 airmen waiting to be rescued after being downed on Greenland's ice cap in Dec 1948. He believes he helped save some lives with the extra rations and clothes he brought with him. The men were rescued after 19 days.
