'Discipline and Punish': the birth of a middle-range research strategy
Article Abstract:
In 'Discipline and Punish: The Birth of the Prison,' Michael Foucault analyses the development of institutionalized penal discipline in punishment in the West during the late 18th and early 19th century. He describes the relationship between power and social science by integrating structuralism and phenomenology. Foucault's book provided the scholars with an option to work in specific cultural and institutional fields, and also presented methods to deconstruct policies and institutional programs.
