New light on blood sugar
Article Abstract:
Researchers have discovered a method of blood sugar testing using a beam of infrared light. Since glucose absorbs light in the near-infrared region of the spectrum, the device detects glucose's signature and calculates its blood concentration from infrared light emerging from a blood vessel.

It would take 53 years before retired Marine major general Jim Day would receive a Medal of Honor for bravery shown during the battle for Okinawa in 1945. At that time, Day was a 19-year-old corporal who led his eight-man squad in capturing the western slope of Sugar Loaf Hill.
