Photographer James R. Solomon, a resident of Portland, spends his day on the water in New England's Major Port cities - Portland, Portsmouth, Boston - to record the common activities. He has captured lobstermen harvesting their catch, seals playing along the coast, and all the modes of watercraft, from schooners and ferries to tankers and speedboats, cruising inside and outside of the harbor.

The origin of Wedgwood, founded by Josiah Wedgwood in 1759 and its growing prosperity is described. While works from 1920s, 1930s, and 1940s include John Skeaping's stylized animal figures and colorful art wares from Erling Olsen of Norway, the 1970s witnessed works by Glenys Barton and Sir Edvardo Paolozzi.
