John Otero spent one week in the summer of 1993 at a camp designed for children with AIDS and their families. Precautions against blood contact are taken, but they are used for non-HIV infected campers too, so everyone is treated alike. John has a chance to be treated like a normal child.

Vaughan set out on his 89th birthday to climb the peak in the Antarctic named after him by Robert Byrd. Vaughan was a member of Byrd's expedition to the South pole. They arrived at the summit 3 days earlier than planned.
