Opera ballets at the Kirov Festival
Article Abstract:
The 1998 Kirov Opera Festival contained the two ballets of Mikhail Glinka's 'Ruslan and Lyudmila.' Although this was musically and choreographically significant work, reviews largely ignored the ballets. This work premiered in 1842, and was the first uniquely Russian opera. 'Prince Igor' was also performed, but this utilized new designs and that decision was a significant mistake.
