John Zachary Young (1907-1997)
Article Abstract:
John Zachary Young was an Oxford scholar with an illustrious academic ancestry who concentrated on cephalopods early in his career and extended this interest to become one the most influential biologists of his generation. His ungainly and disheveled appearance camouflaged a very organized mind. Young was responsible for defining anatomy as the study of the relation of structure to function and for reconstructing the anatomy department at the University College London into an active research and teaching center.
