A tomb robber in Italy, called tombarolo, says tomb robbing serves as a source of additional income. Tomb robbing also has become a passion to him, similar to those who love hunting or fishing. He said that when he was young, tomb robbing enabled him to provide for his family.

Latin American artifacts especially pre-Colombian are highly sought after in the United States in 2000. Unfortunately this demand by museums and collectors has led to grave robbers desecrating many historic sites especially in Peru.
