The nicotine and carbon monoxide found in cigarette smoke has been determined to limit collagen production in the body. Orthopedists say this means that smokers produce less collagen than non-smokers, with the lack making it more difficult for broken bones to mend or bone fissures to heal.

Research shows that people who smoke 20 sticks of cigarettes or more in a day are almost 100% more likely than non-smokers to develop cataracts. Additionally, the risk of forming cataracts rises in proportion to the number of cigarettes smoked.
