Sociology appears to be a vanishing discipline, with sociology degrees conferred by US universities dramatically decreasing. Some critics blame too much specialist jargon for its decline, while others contend that it has too many specialized sub-areas. A more serious problem, however, is the lack of concurrence on its objectives or methods.

Psychologist David Weeks conducted a 10-year study on eccentrism and published the results in his book, 'Eccentrics.' Weeks differentiates the eccentrics from the psychotics. The former are happy nonconformists who live they want, while the latter are similar, except they are full of rage.
