Speed skiers compete on a straight course with no gates or turns and reach speeds of more than 100 mph. They often train on the tops of speeding cars or in wind tunnels. The sport has fewer injuries than downhill racing, but competitors do have some spectacular spills.

UpSkiing is a new form of skiing in which a lightweight sail is used to speed a skier across the snow with the force of wind. The UpSkier steers the parachute-like canopy to control the speed. UpSkiing is easy to learn and relatively safe.
