The quest for a constitution
Article Abstract:
Azhar Cachalia is a South African civil rights lawyer who spent a year at Yale Law School studying the US Constitution and Bill of Rights. Cachalia claims that South Africa, with its unique historical problems, will face significant problems in formulating a workable constitution and bill of rights. The African National Congress proposed a bill of rights in its Africa Claims document of 1943, but this and subsequent proposals foundered under apartheid policies. Economic rights and the treatment of historical inequities will be of particular importance.

Jersey's vanishing 'New.' (looking at the usage for New Jersey and Gotham)(On Language)(Column)
Article Abstract:
The names for New York and New Jersey are traced back to their Latin names later translated into English. Several theories are offered as to why 'New' is dropped from New Jersey so often, but not from New York. The use of Gotham, as another name for New York, is also explored.
