Army basic training has adopted a proactive stance towards building character and teaching values in recruits. Drill sergeants have begun to care more about respecting recruits and an extra week that was added to basic training in Oct 1998 has been allotted for counseling and evaluation.

The Stars and Stripes forever
Article Abstract:
The key to a good war report is to see what is going on. This was the tradition that guided Stars and Stripes journalists as they reported to their readers. Delivering the needed information without giving away anything of tactical value was the newspaper's strict rule.
