World War II ended when Japan surrendered on Sept 2, 1945, but not before millions died in kamikaze attacks and atomic explosions. The atomic bombs used on Hiroshima and Nagasaki ended the war and changed the world. Back in the US, Rogers and Hammerstein flourished and soldiers returned from the war.

Article Abstract:
Political division of Germany after the war led to the cold war that continued between the US and Russia until 1989 when the Berlin Wall fell. Many European countries abandoned their former colonies to violence and misery and new wars broke out in Asia and the Middle East.
