The anguished politics of breast cancer
Article Abstract:
Women who have breast cancer used their anger to join forces to make the public and politicians more aware of the disease. Their efforts have helped increase funding for breast cancer research. The disease is the leading cause of death for women between the ages of 35 and 52. Its risk factors are described.

The discovery 40 years ago by a Western-trained Chinese physician that traditional Chinese practitioners used arsenic effectively against cancer is bearing fruit today in the worldwide medical community. The difficulty of persuading Western doctors about the efficacy of traditional remedies is discussed.
