The boys for Bill Goat Hill
Article Abstract:
Second Street, Silvis, Illinois, has been renamed as Hero Street in memory of the six young men who died in World War II and the two who died in the Korean War. The Mexican-American community who grew up in Silvis where made up of immigrants who had fled the revolution in Central Mexico in the 1920s. Their children where American citizens by birth. Some 87 young men from Second Street volunteered to fight in World War II. The eight who died were awarded medals for their bravery.

American Legion National Commander Daniel A. Ludwig spoke before a joint session of Congress about the problems plaguing the delivery of health services to veterans. He presented the American Legion's proposed reforms for the Veterans Administration.
