Private First Class Joe Faria met Maria McNulty in Northern Ireland on Mar 16, 1944 and fell in love with each other. However, Joe was seriously injured and Maria thought him to be dead. Both got married to another person but their spouses died and they got married on Nov 14, 1993.

Marriage, in the traditional sense, was more of a business arrangement where finances took precedence over such abstract matters as love and companionship. Betrothals were terribly common in centuries past and most children had no choice but to obey their parents.
