The girl in the mural

American artist Maxfield Parrish created a number of works between 1905 and 1934 that featured a young model called Sue Lewin, who posed for all but two characters in a mural that Parrish created for display in the Curtis Publishing Company building in Philadelphia. Lewin is now Parrish's housekeeper.

Peck's bad girl

It was in 1897 when Annie Smith Peck reached the summit of Mount Orizaba in Mexico, the highest peak ever reached by a woman in North and South America. She attained many more mountaineering accomplishments in her life and helped to promote the cause of feminism.
