Sony Corp's unsuccessful venture into the Hollywood movie industry began when they hired free-spending production partners Jon Peters and Peter Guber to be in charge of Columbia Pictures. The Japanese conglomerate ended up losing as much as $3.4 billion under the management of Peters and Guber.
