Eddie Perez, the first Latino mayor in the Hartford history describes his experience, his opportunities and his works in life career with reference to salvation in education, dealing with high-risk teens, and his struggle for drug-dependency issues. He was reelected in 2003 for a four-year term, and was handed a new city charter that strengthened the mayor's powers.

Prominent New England chefs have been leading a nationwide trend in which chefs develop mutually beneficial relations with local farmers. The chefs receive the best raw ingredients while farmers get discriminating customers. Recipes from the New England Culinary Institute are presented.

Article Abstract:
The history of election cakes and election festivals is described with emphasis on the New England area. In the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries large cakes were baked for the whole community, but these later became smaller.
