At her high school valedictory address in South Paris, ME, in 1896 Minnie Josie Garland spoke out for the new woman and her place as the equal of men. She claimed for the rights of women the chance to pursue their interests and develop their talents just as men do.

A man remembers the barbecued burgers, which was his favorite meal at his eccentric godmother's house. His grandmother got the recipe from a local radio station in the 1940s. The recipe includes large onions, diced celery, sliced mushrooms, tomatoes and ketchup.

The Bennington Community Built Park in Bennington, VT, was built through the efforts of Alicia Romac. She was able to raise money by running the park's story in the newspaper, naming contributors and the reasons why they were making contributions.
