Eastern European churches are being victimized by a spate of robberies, resulting in the loss of a Gothic Madonna, a Renaissance marble saint and some other valuable religious items. Czech Republic, having suffered the greatest losses, has begun training its police force to stem the crime.

Economics in Chile has grown the past 11 years despite the political turmoil it went through. With the end of the military dictatorship in 1990, more foreign investment has flowed into the country. Canada supports its integration into the North American Free Trade Agreement.
