New Englanders enjoy golf at least as much as the rest of the US, but without the fashion, fancy new equipment, golf carts or bragging. Playing with the threat of snow is a character-building test of survival skills. A few selected courses are described.

Singing on sacred ground

People in Thompson, CT, celebrate Christmas in a old-fashioned way. The festivities include a Christmas concert, a Christmas-tree lighting, and caroling. Residents do not object to the creche on Thompson Hill because it is on church land.
