The totem pole people

The native Americans of the Pacific Northwest were skilled hunters and fishermen with highly developed arts, crafts and ceremonies. Each family had a symbolic crest, and family ranks were displayed on carved totem poles. The art of carving totem poles was nearly lost, but it revived in the 1950s.
