The idealized feminine bodies that grace the covers of fashion magazines have resulted in a stereotype embodied by the fashion model. This stereotype is in direct conflict with that of the powerful female athlete, who are not immune from the influence wielded by the feminine ideal. The marketing of the female athlete must face and defeat the prevailing stereotype.

Gender segregation in sports is examined from the physiological and social points of view. In some sports such as archery and shooting, women's performance compares favorably with men's. It is suggested that sexual segregation in sports is a result of male athletes' preference for not competing against women.
