Voices from the tunnel: deep under Manhattan, life goes on
Article Abstract:
A 1990 survey estimated more than 5,000 most dispossessed members of the American society residing in the abandoned tunnels underneath Manhattan. Only a handful of these residents have been documented and only a small pocket of the community has been explored. Most feel that the shelter found in the tunnel is temporary and that they are not homeless.
