Rock writing started out as a form of conversation between few men who wanted to furnish substance and dignity to the music of the times as well as to explore its potentials. In the 1980s and 1990s, rock writing has become more complicated because it now also serves as a venue for music fans' opinions.

Kelly's heroes

Australian songwriter and singer Paul Kelly composes songs about people struggling to be right. According to critics his songs does not seem to fit any present fad market such as punk-rock. Despite four of his eight albums being released in US, he has not yet gained popularity among Americans.
