The North House folk school in Grand Marais, MN, offers unique subjects, such as canoe building, Norwegian rosemaling and Scandinavian dollmaking. Entire families sign up for classes. Folk schools originated in Denmark as alternative schools focusing on Scandinavia's traditional crafts.
