What future Pete?
Article Abstract:
California Gov Pete Wilson may be the state's unluckiest governor in that he has faced an unprecedented series of budget woes and natural disasters since he took office. Moreover, he will be the first California chief executive to be mandated out of office, in 1998, under term limits, and his prospects as a presidential candidate will hinge on his legacy in California. However, an improvement in the state's economy and a reduction in crime rates may finally turn the tide of popular disapproval. Wilson is taking initiatives in the areas of tax cuts, welfare, and educational reforms and privatization.
