Gated community beefs up security with vehicle bar code
Article Abstract:
A gated community near Middletown, CA, is using bar code technology for increased security and control access to the community. The 1,500-home Lake County and Hidden Valley Lake community has two 24-hour guard stations, which control two unmanned gates with laser bar code scanners manufactured by Accu-Sort Systems of Telford, PA. The scanners can read bar codes on vehicles traveling at speeds of up to 50 mph.

X-rated security vs. good business practice
Article Abstract:
AS&E of Billerica, MA, has introduced an imaging system called BodySearch that provides a see-through image of the human body which could clearly show hidden contraband such as weapons or drugs. The system is being used by US Customs in several important airports. Persons to be searched are, however, given an option to be searched by the traditional pat-down method or by the BodySearch system.
